50 Years of James Bond: The Movie

Approximately five minutes from each of the 22 Eon produced James Bond films have been cut together, in order and in sequence, beginning with the first five minutes of DR. NO (1962) followed by minutes 5-10 of FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963), minutes 10-15 of GOLDFINGER (1964), minutes 15-20 of THUNDERBALL (1965), continuing on through each of the remaining 18 Bond features (accounting for variables in each title’s running time) culminating with the final five minutes of 2008’s QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

This fresh look at the “James Bond Formula” provides a new exploration of the evolution of the series into a filmmaking genre uniquely its own. With few exceptions, each title’s transition into the picture that follows it is nearly seamless, creating a viewing experience that at first might serve to remind us “if you’ve seen one Bond film, you’ve seen them all,” but looking more closely it is in fact an endearing homage to a character who single-handedly shaped modern cinema’s action/adventure formula and who continues to leave an indelible mark on generations worldwide.

She’s not here to lie to you

I’d like to think this is the turning point back towards honest journalism.

Vietnam War Photos

These come from a fantastic collection of lesser-seen Vietnam War photos that can be viewed here.

I can’t recall where these were referred onto from (came back from the weekend to find this buried amongst tabs and that I also have amnesia), so I’ve little context on this collection, apart from the fact that they’re all great.

Really old bookmarks…

Okay,

the nagging voices in the back of my head have finally reached a consensus and they’re of the opinion that i should really, really, really get off my ass and update this site…Actually, they’ve been going on about this for ages, but now it’s gotten to be less ‘oh but first I must redesign the fucker’ and more ‘fuck man, two months of almost no updates?’

Get your shit together Tyrone.

Well in my defense, at the beginning of those two months, I just wanted a break from the internet and all the article readings as it was just getting a bit overwhelming. So, rather than doing something else constructive, I went analog and read the shit out of books instead; which was great cause I haven’t been reading books in ages and just pouring through properly researched texts was such a welcome change of pace.

(Interestingly, as I’m writing this and looking back on the last lot of posts and articles, the books I was reading weren’t too dissimilar in topics: biology, neuroscience, media manipulation, technology, sociology – hell, I even managed one on movies which was a nice old feeling.)

But anyway, I’m digressing and point is, time to shake things up a bit. First is to update, post some old drafts that strangely didn’t get posted and clear out my browsers well-overstuffed bookmarks folder. There’s actually a newly designed template for this site that I need to finish up testing. And hell, just start writing post posts again. Just putting this one together has taken a lot more concentration than I remember needing and well, sorry if you had to read through such a disjointed ‘first post’, I’m out of practice, but only for now.
