Photographer: Bruce Davidson

Blindly came across this guys work, but damn I’m a fan now. Bruce Davidson is an American based photographer who started out at the age of 10 when his equally top shelf mum built him a darkroom and ever since has been snapping photos with an incredible documenting eye for emotion and humanity.
That’s kinda all I can say towards my quick researched summary on the guy, cause really, if your interested there are much more insightful and extensive write ups and interviews to be found here, here and here. Also, some online galleries portraying his works can be found here, here and here; and be sure to check out what there is from his East 100th Street set while your at it.
Also, here’s a retrospective video on the guys work during the civil rights movement…
A couple more favourite images…
And finally, something that pleasantly surprised me, he was responsible for the cover image of the Beastie Boys’ Ill Communication. Boosh.
Hehehe…

I cannot omit a rather childish story which Vasari tells about the David. After it had been placed upon its pedestal before the palace, and while the scaffolding was still there, Piero Soderini, who loved and admired Michelangelo, told him that he thought the nose too large. The sculptor immediately ran up the ladder till he reached a point upon the level of the giant’s shoulder. He then took his hammer and chisel, and, having concealed some dust of marble in the hollow of his hand, pretended to work off a portion from the surface of the nose. In reality he left it as he found it; but Soderini, seeing the marble dust fall scattering through the air, thought that his hint had been taken. When, therefore, Michelangelo called down to him, ‘Look at it now!’ Soderini shouted up in reply, ‘I am far more pleased with it; you have given life to the statue.’

Shot on a 5D mkii around Arizona, these HDR time-lapse images are straight up gorgeous. While I love and loath the overuse these days of John Murphy’s Sunshine (Adagio in D Minor), it gets a full pass this round based on how appropriately used it is here.
I should also stress: be sure to check it out in full HD too.
Not quite the Great Pumpkin…
…But close enough.
These were sculpted by Ray Villafane and they’re nothing short of amazing. The level of detail and expressions are so freakin good, he’s not human. Posting up my three favourites, all linking to many more. Oh and if you’ve not seen his giant sand sculpture of Dante’s Inferno, sweet jebus be sure to check it out too.
Shadow Art Lamps
Okay, these lamps? I totally want them. At 189 EUR/US$260 each it’s a bit overkill, but hey, if anyone is feeling generous over Christmas or likes to make things, I’m totally down with the me charity.

Despite having a four day weekend, still haven’t quite recovered from the last few weeks of intense work. Partly due to Rugby World Cup celebrations, but mostly due to Batman: Arkham City, which is a good segue to finally post this…

Nearing the end of an exhausting two weeks of work and have been juggling multiple roles from designer to editor to camera operator to… hell, I can hardly remember what now. This is the third night in a row of getting home at 2am and just one more day to go
Much too tired to post anything proper tonight, so here’s a picture of the Earth and Moon from 6 million miles away.

Many favourites in this; old and new. All of them being awesome.
Immersive Surfaces
Holy crap, even though I’d been ‘away’ from the internet for a while, in that time I’ve still managed to bookmark a whole buncha junk and articles. Some still relevant, but mostly junk. At least it’ll in providing some extra content while I get back into this rhythm of blogging again.
In the meantime, this is the Immersive Surfaces installation, a multi-artist video projection project that mapped over 30,000 sq feet of the Manhattan Bridge Anchorage. To describe it another word, VisuallyFuckingAwesome.
