Video Essay: 135 Shots That Will Restore Your Faith in Cinema

Treat me right baby, I’ve been burned in the past… well, the selection in this video essay by flavourwire is a great range and certainly makes me all the more antsy to get back into some film stuff after all this play who-ha is over. I’m also starting to wonder how much more mileage can be sapped out of Clint Mansell’s score for Moon; a bit more I’d say, only because that score is that awesome.

Anyhow, see how many you can pick out (and extra points for naming the cinematographers). Full list can be found here.

Cosmic Journeys : Saturn’s Mysterious Moons

This 25 minute film lays out and explores just what we’ve learned about the Saturn and its various moons; probably the most fascinating planetary system in our solar system. Most of the data is from the Cassini spacecraft’s 7 year findings, with a little from Voyager and Galileo.

#DIRTYLAUNDRY

For fans of The Punisher that starred Thomas Jane: he’s gone and made a true to the word ‘fan film’ and it’s fucking awesome. Recommended.

The Next Winnebago Man?

This is my man Marxy. He’s a funny fucker; and funnier when fucking up. Bless.

You fucking doctor.

Earthlapse ‘Satyameva Jayte’

Using photos taken aboard the International Space Station, this time lapse video utilises a myriad of different editing techniques, frame rates, music and sound bites to create something quite special about our planet. Am also quite taken by the change up in aspect ratio from the norm.

Be sure to watch in HD full screen.

Werner Herzog discovers John Waters is Gay

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything Werner Herzog related and as an added bonus, this one relates to John Waters too.

Taken from a 2007 documentary I’ve not heard of called On the Ecstasy of Ski Flying, Herzog explains how his wonderful documentarian eye has finally led him, after 35 years, to this observation:

For me a chair is a chair — and I do not reference to other possibilities. For me, a man is a man. I cannot distinguish a gay man from a straight man. I just cannot distinguish …

“After 35 years of knowing John Waters I turn to my wife and I said to her, ‘I have the feeling that this man is gay.’”

Man, he’s pretty awesome.
