Crazy Hamsters Playing

Been a long week, but then this…

4 Armed Mohawked Robot playing the drums

Containing shades of Chris Cunningham’s Monkey Drummer and our homegrown Trons, here’s a four-armed mohawked robot playing the drums…

Terry Crews Muscle Music

Old Spice’s new internet ad continues their new age tradition of ultimate weirdness and presents an innovative new approach to being a one man band.

BONUS: if you play this through their vimeo page, you’ll get to ‘play’ Terry as well with your keyboard.

All Sorts of Wrong…

In the Playroom is a metaphor for the impossibility of a protective space safe from the reach of modern media. The quizzical disposition of youth and the pervasive nature of the media are symbolically represented in Hobin’s images through tableau-vivant re-enactments of the very current events that adults might wish to keep out of their child’s world. Just as children make a game of pretending to be adults as a way to prepare and ultimately take on these roles in later life, so too do they explore things that they hear or see, whether or not they completely understand the magnitude of the event or the implications of their play.

So Canadian photographer Jonathan Hobin‘s now project is called In The Playroom and depicts images of kids playing as kids do. The exception though? Rather than the traditional imaginary play time, these kids are re-enacting scenes from infamous events and media events in history… crazy.

Wow…

…I’d like to think the motivation was that of a young Liz Lemon.

Man-Flu: the only thing worth blog writing about in six months…

Posts were going to be sporadic for this week as I’m currently down with the flu, but then I realised that most of my ‘time off’ is being spent online anyhow; so really, not much of a difference.

Did manage to spend almost all of yesterday cleaning and organising through my computer’s 8TBs of data/documents/files/images/videos/DIY pagan rituals… and you know what? I think I’ve finally found a practical application for all those hours spent playing RPG games and micromanaging the shit out of my backpack slots.

All that’s left is to sort through the one folder that I’ve been dumping image files into for the last year or so.

What’s that? Over 5,000 unordered, unlabeled images?

Yeah, I’m going the hell back to bed.

Insane in the Chromatophores

Hooking up an ipod to a squid’s nervous system, scientists observed and recorded the microscopic effects of Cypress Hill’s Insane in the Membrane on the cephalopod’s pigmentation cells. The results are pretty damn funky.
