A Frankenstien Monster Post

Well shit, I’ve taken a bit more of a break from blogging than intended, but ah well here’s the catch-up…

Been working well too much in the last week, balancing filming and working. Still have to work on actually combining the two into a one regular thing.

48 Hours continues to be prevailing. C4 is currently screening three 48 films from this year every night at 11pm on a weeknight. Starting Wednesday, they’ll be screening the regional winners, Friday will be the wildcards as picked by Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro (super cool) and Saturday will be the televised finals (at 9pm if you are interested in watching). Our film will be screened last on Wednesday night which will be really cool and you’ll get to see our retarded intro and possibly my retarded interview as well. Past that, we don’t have any illusions of actually winning the entire competition and while it is an international competition and there’s no telling who could be picked for whatever reason, I highly doubt we’d win anything and it’s basically just cool, if not still surprising, to have gotten this far again.

Oh and if you’re unable to watch any of the episodes of the 48 Hours tv show, they’re online at the C4 website here. It’s pretty much how I’ve been following the show as I’m working when its on and come to think of it, might not even be available to watch the finals when they screen.

There’s plenty of other things to mention, but I’ll save it for another post. This week shall just be catch up week really as I start sorting out what I need to do next. Room currently looks like a post-tornado site and the boot of my car is filled with just as much junk to go through.

In the meantime here are some videos:

A very cool ‘stop motion’ video with post its and computer who ha.

An online comedy video series thing that’s pretty funny and manages to keep being so in subsequent videos.

And my current favourite awesome, the latest N.A.S.A. music video for the tract “A Volta”. Totally brilliant.

Also a few New Scientist articles I’ve enjoyed and cause the tabs are still open…

Seven things that don’t make sense about gravity.

10 scientific objects that changed the world.

And the very cool article on The inside story of the Conficker worm.

Bob Dylan – Beyond Here Lies Nothin’

New Bob Dylan music video is ‘o’ for intensely awesome.

The Dead Weather

Less than two weeks till The Kills NZ tour and I’m looking very forward to it. It’s surprising how popular they’ve become really. Anyway, Jack White just announced a new band called The Dead Weather and The Kills’ Alison Mosshart fronting and that’s awesome.

Here’s their first video for their song Hang You From The Heavens

Music Video – Smile Around the Face by Four Tet

Been watching some good old British comedy shows and one particular actor who’s been on a lot of them is the brilliant Mark Heap. Here’s a music video with him in it and its just great.

Posting Stuff on Films

Am currently editing a video for my friend Sash and introducing his Samurai Movie marathon this weekend, which is just fun and a good excercise to keep me working. Especially since I’m currently sick from work, which is really annoying, cause I get sick only once a year during the seasonal change from Summer to Winter, but that shouldn’t happen for a few more months. This flu is way too early and I blame it on global warming. To be fair, I do blame everything on global warming, well, I do if I can’t blame it on the robots first.

Last week there was a screening of the short film collection It Came From the Swamp at the Hamilton Gardens Summer Festival. I tried to attend it, but somehow got lost in the gardens and it seemed everyone I inquired had a different opinion of where exactly it was on the grounds. But from what I’ve heard, most screenings have gone down very well and Spit-Takes is a real crowd pleaser, which is great.

At the insistence of several people I’ve uploaded an old video made several years ago. Shot on no budget and for a university music video competition, this was just fun for all involved and turned out to be pretty much one of the only videos I can rewatch without cringing for some self concious reason.

So, without further blathering, I present “I Think I Can” with music by The Pillow.

Chris Cunningham

Been ‘listening’ to a lot of music videos while I’ve been web building and figured why the hell not post some of my favourites by Chris Cunningham…

The wonderfully controversial “Come to Daddy” by Aphex Twin

Equally offending, but brilliantly hilarious “Windowlicker” also by Aphex Twin

The Horrors’ “Sheena Is A Parasite” with Samantha Morton looking even more crazy.

Cunningham’s crazy Playstation ad that I remember seeing years ago on TV and it doing nothing bu freaking the shit out of me and going what the fuck?

Quite possibly my favourite music video of all time, Bjork’s “All is Full of Love”

Brain Maggot’d

So Dark Knight? It was totally awesome. Nuff said. All should go watch it, I’m gonna be going again this weekend for the IMAX version. I love you Batman. Why wont you answer my calls?

This Saturday I’m helping shoot a video for a band from Hamilton Boy’s High to be put forward with their application in the Smokefree Rockquest. I forget what their band is called, but they sound great and it’ll be fun. I hope.

And speaking of smokefree, yes, I still am much to my own amazement as well as everyone elses. It’s now coming into the fifth day and I’ve not had a single cigarette despite all the usual times of having a good puff from driving, to after a sweet awesome meal to taking breaks at a shitty shit filled job to hanging around other smokers smoking away and very much so enjoying it. Five days now. I should get a medal.

And… I have nothing else to report. I had things to say, been thinking all day about saying them, but have simply come up blank on what it was to be about. Oh well.

Here’s an article on incressed UFO sightings in Britan.

And a great re-subtitled video of Downfall that me and my film buddies are having a great laugh over. There seems to be a lot of different versions of this concept from problems with Windows Vista to xbox 360 issues, but this one is my favourite.

Behold!

A slightly new and hardly noticeable update of this site’s design…

Added a slightly different layout to most other pages around and changed some of the fonts, as I discovered the one I used previously isn’t usual part of most windows or mac font packs and this one is as close to how I originally had it. Also note there now a total of about 50 header images up for your viewing/refreshing pleasure.

Film subsections are going to be the next upload and hopefully, finally, new artworks after that.

Currently reading Neil Gaiman’s collection of short stories Fragile Things which is really, really good and should be read by anyone and everyone.

Also, one must check out the latest Hot Fuzz trailer, cut alongside Robert Roderiguez, it’s great and can be viewed here or just download it here.

And links from Robbie, this is the coolest greatest music video to have come out for a long time, if not ever. Download it!

And awesome midi music remixes to be heard here.

Oh man…

Days off…

When I moved back down to Hamilton, I simply pilled as much junk into a whole bunch of boxes and drove like crazy back down. Weeks down the track, and those boxes took up half the very little floorspace that I was sleeping in.

Room is now clean, gardens have been done, lawns mowed, cars washed, my car tidied… I’m either compensating for the lack of filming getting done or just avoiding some proper work that I haven’t done yet.

But filming is nearly over and I crave money. Talked to the old boss at the video store and it looks like I’ll be picking up a few shifts there, at least to get me a little income again.

Been going back over Slice of Life stuff again, and proposals are being drafted up for TVNZ so fingers crossed it’ll at least be a nice proposal.

Oh and if you’re not doing anything on any nights from tomorrow til Saturday night, go watch this year’s run of the Couch Soup play. Gets more funny and amusing every year and I highly recommend any and all to go watch. It’s at the meteor theatre um… I think… and… um… I’ll get back to you on that actually.

And a repost of DJ Shadow’s Six Days music video by Wong Kar Wai, only because I’ve had this damn song and video stuck in my head for the last few days and no matter what, I can’t seem to get it out… hot.

Pictures of You – Day 23 blog

Long freakin’ day today.

Started at 9, shooting a scene at the museum which was fun, although we went a little overtime, which would have been okay, but I had an appointment to run off to, which didn’t go overtime, but by the time I was done, I had to run off to the next location to set up for a bar/band scene, which looked great, but at this point, I was running on no food, heat exhaustion and a headache the size of a walnut… made of cyanide.

Managed to finish just at midnight, though we had to scrap a couple of shots planned for magic hour cause we didn’t want to lose the small amount of extras we had at the time. Why is it so hard to find extras sometimes? Ah well.

Also got to finally do a cameo in the film… playing a drunk patron, dragged out on his arse by security. Even got to fire off a string of profane one liners for the role. Described as Will Farrel and Kevin Smith gone wrong, I shot off lines along the lines of “aw… hairy sweaty balls on your chin” and “goddamn shit in your cereal”… awesome.

Also got some interesting good news regarding the film commission, though I probably can’t say much about it and I won’t. Though it does bear potentialness for awesomeness.

But by the end of the day, ie now, I’m feeling like crap and not really looking forward to tomorrow. So not feeling it this week I think.

Still not fully connected to blog yet, though website is back online, I can’t connect to it due to a password change malfunction and you probably won’t be reading this anytime until some time since posting like so many previous posts as well. But heres a funny music video classic none-the-less…
