A Post Without More Than One Paragraph…

Still haven’t moved into new house yet. Everytime I go there, I’ve got more stuff and I throw that stuff into the room and sometimes organise it into tidy stuff, but I’ve still yet to sleep there. Flatmate figures that once I move my computer of awesome in there it’ll be a sign I’ve finally settled in. He’s probably right too. Problem is, I’m still waiting on a decently sized and reasonably priced desk to fall into my lap or into my room more preferably, but that will all come together soon. Very soon. Tomorrow a couple of trademe auctions shall finish and if the gods smile favourably, I shall emerge victorious of the bidders and with a sexy desk. The room is starting to take shape though, bed is in there and so is a shelf, but there are still many boxes of stuff around the place and lots of open floorspace going on still… as it’s so freaking huge, it’s awesome. Not to forget that there is a flatwarming this weekend for any and all that can make it. Saturday. Contact me for details. Did I mention earlier that I’ve broken my cellphone? Beat it up pretty bad and now it’s got a broken screen and walked out on me with some of my address book and the children. Since then, I’ve been getting txt messages from various ‘unknowns’ where I can either deduce through socratic logic of who it is, or sheepishly send a txt back saying sorry, I’ve come to depend on technology too much. But yeah, I have lost some numbers and that is why some are not hearing much from me. Which also reminds me… Marama, I don’t have yours or Joe’s number, so I didn’t get to send you a birthday greeting, but you’re hearing it here on the blog, Happy birthday! As a cheap present of some sort, here is the trailer to 30 Days of Night. Yeah That’s right, I’ve put together a trailer of the film you worked on as a birthday present for you. How magic am I? Seriously, it looks pretty cool though and I’m seeing quite a bit of the comic coming through. Yay!

48 Finals and Other Film Stuff

So the top 12 list has been announced and it looks like our short Flash Sanders: Funk Detective is among them, which I’m totally stoked about as it means we’re on the DVD and that’s all I need really. This Thursday will be the finals and I’ve got my bet on at least two films that are pretty top marked contenders to take away the region’s best award. Actually, one in particular I think is pretty damn awesome in everything it did, from the story structure to the acting to the very excellent intergration of the three required elements of a rope, the line “what do you call that” and a character named Jerry/Geri Reed/Reid, hypochondriac.

Still in the slow process of moving house… it’s slow.

And meanwhile Terry Gilliam is going to direct an Opera Andrea ChΓ©nier and has made the best casting choice ever for his new film The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus… bad ass mother Tom Waits.

And here’s a trailer for John Dahl’s new movie called You Kill Me, which stars Ben Kingsley as an alcoholic hit man and the trailer looks alright, but I’ve got a feeling it’s hiding stuff that’s cooler. Download it here.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah…

Holy crap, been both busy and lazy in a wonderful combination.

Just recently I’ve had piles of tapes to review, CDs to listen to, assignments to mark and just DVDs to watch and in my current tiny room it’s all be piling up in a rather impressive mess. My windows desktop is also pretty cluttered and there are windows, each filled with tabs of stuff I’ve been meaning to post, including a blog entry from a couple of days ago which was half finished and totally scrapped in the end. But its almost all gone now. Almost…

So to recap recent events… the 48 Hour Competition film screenings have been going on this week. Monday was a horrible start, but since then the quality of the films have been phenomenal. Tonight is the last screening and the finalists get announced on Monday, I’m not too fussed how ours will fare, but it sure as hell has been fun.

Moving into a new empty and totally awesome house. Slowly bit by bit I’m moving more and more stuff into my large, but still empty room. Next week will see a bed and shelves and drawers making their way in, but there are still some bits of furniture and stuff that I’ve got to track down somewhere in this country.

And we shall be having a flat warming on the 16th this month, hopefully once we have stuff and furniture and everything else sorted and in there. Cause at the moment its really bare and empty, but totally awesome, cause its like something should be filmed in there.

And to be able to close some tabs, here are some stuff from the web…

Trailers for Michael Moore’s new film Sicko viewable here and a sneak peak here.

And just the coolest thing ever, if anyone is familar with Boston Legal and there was that really irritating newsreporter woman. Well, that’s Nancy Grace and what her producer does to her on her show in this clip is pure awesome. You could cut glass with just how awesome she is.

Plus friend Sean’s entry into the Auckland 48 Hour film competition. Goddamnit they were 30 seconds late in, but this is one damn good short.

Game Shows Touch Our Lives

Computer is in the middle of an upgrade to make editing Spit Takes a lot more easier. Actually, prior to upgrade, computer is running pretty sweet, but the option of more flashy bits and bobs going on inside is always a good choice.

Latest episode of House is finally out after much waiting and it is awesome. Best one in a long time and good one to watch after waiting so long for it to come out. The wait for the next episode of Heroes better be just as good in comparison to the wait… oh it better.

Anyway, trailer for 28 Weeks Later is up and I must say I am most intrigued to see it. Though Danny Boyle and Cillian Murphy did Sunshine instead, which is looking more and more awesome, this sequel actually looks half decent enough to go see. Plus zombies. Everyone loves zombies. Just like how everyone loves wild flowers and mutant hamsters.

Orange Ball of Hate

Much tiredness going on for the last few days that’s affected my regular blog updating skills, but increased my catatonic movie watching skills. But stuff has been happening…

Professional help of awesome was given to the editing of Pictures of You over the weekend. My role in its post production is to go round to Ben’s house, watch him edit for a minute or two, start playing his xBox for an hour or two, look back to see he’s still editing and then play some more. By Friday the cutting was looking alright, but, after an actual professional editor had herself come and had some fun on it, I returned on Sunday to find a rather different looking film, many time better. Heidi (editor extraordinaire) has proposed to keep helping out on the cut of the film and I think Ben secretly breathed himself on huge sigh of relief. Just as long as evidence of some pretty bad camera work is still kept left out. She’s pretty damn awesome editor too if I haven’t mentioned it yet.

Capturing of footage on Spit-Takes is next to done. Still one scene left to film and tomorrow will be the recording of the voice-over track and a rough cut should be done by Saturday, just in time for mega drinking… hopefully.

Jon’s operation has been totally successful and there have been only minor complications at worst. Awesomeness as he’ll just be recovering now and we’re all breathing sighs of relief and joy.

To add to the joy, Dylan Moran is back for another performance and this time, this year, I shall have money to go. Plus in June, Mike Patton and Peeping Tom are playing at the St James and I’m even more in for that. Amusing as it’s only being out of Auckland, do I go to more shows there. Just got an announcement for the Mountain Goats to come up and my jar of happy-joy will burst with happy-joy delight.

And the upcoming coolness that will be Stardust finally has a trailer out and it looks awesome. You can check out the youtube clip…

…or download a proper quality of it here.

For ultimate viewing, one should watch both at the same time while wearing 3-D glasses and getting a massage from midget monkeys… hot.

Design Your Own Container Garden

Got back today from a rather brief visit to Auckland. Took a semi-impromptu trip up Sunday night and drank somewhat and got to finally catch up with a lot of friends I had not seen a long time (and film them spitting like crazy). There were also many I’d not managed to catch up with, but that’ll have to be for the next time, which will hopefully be not as long of a period as the last one.

Had quite a few things to mention and talk about, but its been a rather long day, and my mind is currently drawing a blank on a lot of things. Tomorrow I’ll be making the first (and with luck not the last) trip to Uni to give a helping hand and special guest tutoring a Screen and Media class. Thoughts of totally screwing with first year students are currently revolving around my head and I like it.

If I’ll have time tomorrow, I’ll be starting the capturing and editing of footage for Spit-Takes too. Gonna fast track its production and hopefully have a decent cut set and ready by next week. Of course, there is a lot of work and things like saving people from burning buildings to be done this week, so it’ll be a little small mission to get done. After defeating the Martian-Walrus-People that is.

And now… here’s a silly fun office related ad that I really liked…

A fucking short version of the Departed

And finally, another 300 trailer, this time its extended, uncut and probably uncensored. Plus, if you pause it at the 1:52 mark, there is a flash frame of a test shot from Watchmen… Frank Miller, Alan Moore, lots of blood and nipples, what more can you ask for?

Oh yeah… Hot Fuzz coming out Thursday, I’m so freaking turned on now.

Movies Awesomeness

It may have been delayed til April (and fingers crossed the new date will stick), but for now there’s this clip of ultimate awesomeness from 300 with a bit of a douchey intro and outro from the director and star, but the clip itself made me drool my brain into my cereal bowl.

They’re still Hot Fuzz to look forward to this month (along with half a dozen films I’ve still yet to see), plus next month has Pan’s Labyrinth, The Illusionist and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, cause ninjas are cool and by cool, I mean totally sweet.

Revelations and Morphine

I’ve just come to the realisation that since starting ‘work’ up again, I’ve become a tad complacent. I’ve not shot anything more of spit-takes and haven’t aspired to doing any else much either. A tad worrying, but at least this issue has been noted early.

Tomorrow is also pay day for me and its going to be the most awesome feeling in the whole world. After over a year of poverty, I’m now gonna have an income and be able to buy stuff. Of course, I’m saving it all (70% of all) for whatever the hell I do next in the not too distant future.

Also today, I’ve been having the incredible hankering to go on a road trip, or to just get the hell out of the city and chase the country-side for a while. I’ve been driving around a bit at night and find myself just stopping on the outskirts of town to hang out under the stars which is totally awesome and it’s not a normal feeling for me, but I’m feeling a tad nomadic at the moment and feel like travelling a bit. Ah well.

In other, more interesting news, big congrats to Marama and Joe and Brad and all at Down by the Riverside as their IMDb page has recently gone up (I think today), which coincides with the whole site itself getting a new look (like as of a couple of hours ago)… Shiny. I remember when I first discovered IMDb in 1999 (whoa) and how its awesomeness blew me away as it still does so today. I think the film I was first looking up stuff on what Big Trouble in Little China which is also still awesome today.

New, third Simpsons film trailer is out and formats viewable here, or hi res quicktime downloadable straight from here.

Also been finding myself listening to lots and lots of podcasts of Penn Radio, which is a great listen to and I’d recommend checking out one or two if you’ve got the spare time.

Also just realised I missed out on cheap Tuesday at the movies today. Though I’ve been watching a lot of a films from the store (a lot), there are still so many I want to see at the cinemas now. Thank Jebus I’m working though, it may make going on any other day a tad more bearable.

Finally, some Morphine music video awesomeness…

Gongxi Facai

A happy Chinese New year to all. I’ve been watching and catching up on movies all day. Video store love baby. Video store love.

In a quick swoop… Borat is funny, Slither is fun, Jarhead is great and everyone should watch Me and You and Everyone We Know cause if you do, your cool. It’s science.

From Daisy, this is the Brick Testament… which is just great fun to browse through and read. Plus its illustrated with lego and anything with lego is 150% cooler. Even the Bible.

Also something I want to do myself, are photos taken at just the right time to make it look like people are floating in mid-air. 200% cooler, even without the lego found here.

And finally, the latest (and wishfully not the last) Grindhouse trailer is out. Downloadable straight from here.

Behold!

A slightly new and hardly noticeable update of this site’s design…

Added a slightly different layout to most other pages around and changed some of the fonts, as I discovered the one I used previously isn’t usual part of most windows or mac font packs and this one is as close to how I originally had it. Also note there now a total of about 50 header images up for your viewing/refreshing pleasure.

Film subsections are going to be the next upload and hopefully, finally, new artworks after that.

Currently reading Neil Gaiman’s collection of short stories Fragile Things which is really, really good and should be read by anyone and everyone.

Also, one must check out the latest Hot Fuzz trailer, cut alongside Robert Roderiguez, it’s great and can be viewed here or just download it here.

And links from Robbie, this is the coolest greatest music video to have come out for a long time, if not ever. Download it!

And awesome midi music remixes to be heard here.
