In this set: Flavorwire have released their third (and apparent final) video essay compiling the debut film roles of many of today’s movie stars. Be prepared for some pleasant surprises and some…
A few years ago I made the conscious decision to stop watching trailers. Avoid them at all possible cost. For me, the state of movie advertising has gotten so bad, that by the end of watching a trailer, chances are, you’ve already seen over half the movie’s plot*.
Thanks, but fuck off, no thanks.
That has been the norm for years up until this very week, where I just clicked that I’ve watched the trailers for The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises and now Ridley Scott’s Alien-esque prequel Prometheus.Β Granted that they’re all teasers, yeah it’s just images and impressions of what the final film will be like, and hells yeah do I feel excitement for all of them, but man, do I feel very wrong in watching trailers again like that.
Anyhow, here’s the one for Prometheus, definitely more and more becoming my most anticipated flick for 2012.
* best example is the trailer for Drive. DON’T watch the trailer for Drive before you see Drive.
Covered by Trent Reznor and Karen O for David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I fell in love with this version when first heard it on the teaser trailer and sweet kakow jebus its good.
The soundtrack is also available to purchase online, but I’ve made the mistake of over-listening to soundtracks before watching the actual film too often to know it usually distracts the viewing experience for me. That cinema release can’t come sooner I say.
I used to love these way back when at university times when I was heavily into editing and the results were just plain awesome.
This is the winner of “Camp Kuleshov”, a competition between assistant editors to take a movie and cut it down into a trailer for a completely different type of genre film. I’d say what they did with Jaws here is quite the bit of fun, even though there’s some compositing work at play.
