Tomorrow night is Circle Jerk and I shall be performing with 1 Fat Man by playing… I’m not even sure what. I do know I’ll be banging on various musical instruments, drinking a good few bottles of beer on stage and screaming through a megaphone ala Tom Waits style… sweet. But really, I have no idea what exactly is gonna happen, but I look forward to the apologies afterwards.
Have too many tabs open again, so… In other craziness in the world, a cat was aparently hit by a motorbike and then turned into a woman…
WHAT could be described as a fairy tale turned real on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as a cat allegedly turned into a middle-aged woman after being hit by a commercial motorcycle (Okada) on Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that three cats were crossing the busy road when the okada ran over one of them which immediately turned into a woman. This strange occurrence quickly attracted people around who descended on the animals. One of them, it was learnt, was able to escape while the third one was beaten to death, still as a cat though.
An awesome article on “The Street as Platform“, technology and it’s perceptions today… or something to effect, it’s a lot to take in, but a totally facinating read here.
And finally a news article on autistic people finding new freedoms using technology, the internet and Second Life. Very cool.
Funny, I can’t think of anything to post tonight, either I’ve been working too hard recently and just can’t think straight anymore, or I’ve suddenly become so delusional that all the stuff I wanted to post about while this blog was down are just downright boring. I blame our robot overlords.
So I’ll just do a recap of our 48 activity…
This year we once again entered into and competed in the V 48 Hour Filmmaking Competition where we drew horror as our genre and from what I gathered from the screening is that people generally liked it and were both disguisted, horrified and laughing at the same time, which is great, cause that was exactly our intention with the short.
Initially, I hated it upon submittal and thought we’d done a poor effort, or, I should really correct myself as everyone involved were awesome above and beyond the call of awesome duty. But at that point, I felt I had done a poor effort and not spent enough time editing the film together and getting the pacing just right and all sorts of blah, blah, blah, that was capped off with having only 25 minutes to go and our first few go’s of capturing the film back to tape were resulting in no sound (and lots of cursing from me). We only just barely made it in with roughly four minutes to the deadline and at that point, we had not watched the film in whole and only seen it in bits and pieces as there just wasn’t enough time during editing to watch it right through. So it was actually the heats screening where I got to watch it as a whole (due to a new rule of not being allowed to watch it at all by anyone after submittal) and with the bonus of having a full audience there as well, where we got the satisfaction of an audience ‘getting it’, or about as close to getting it, as it’s quite a dipolar film in its shock horror and comedy.
The thing I’m most proud of “Sum of All Parts” (films title) is the music by the good Ben Woollen and apart from caring if we make it to the city finals (just to be on the DVD, fingers crossed), is that he gets some recognition or something for the totally awesome music he contributed to the film, which truly made the bastard work. But we’ll see as there’s still five days to go till the city finalists are announced and a further nine days after that till the actual finals. Time be a bitch.
Anyway, the best part about doing the 48, apart from having done it, is that my energy and enthusiasm levels have once again come back up and I’m back in the routine of doing things to get things done. Or at least I’d like to think that’s the case. It’s part of why I’ve fasttracked this site back up and I’m back to planning a whole bunch of projects to be done which will be announced in due time. It’s good to be busy again. Thanks Chuck Norris.
Oh, one video/song I love and remembered to post… Cup of Brown Joy by Elemental. I have no idea who he is, but this video is great.
So I’ve had this blog entry window open for several days now with half an entry filled in, but just haven’t gotten around to finishing it or posting anything throughout the whole week. Been busy with work and more work and all sorts and only now I’m starting to get some down time, so this is now a quick recap post instead.
Went to the Down by the Riverside premiere screening on the Friday which was very good and a nice audience to watch a premiere with. Funny seeing a feature made by friends in the same cinema we watched each other’s uni projects in several years earlier.
Caught the cast and crew screening of Pictures of You which was also an interesting experience to see it put together, but I’ve still got notes on certain aspects that still need tinkering and fixing up.
The rest of the time since then, I’ve been working every night and then working some more on an editing job, which hopefully, will come to a close today and thus leaving me the weekend to get very, very drunk indeed.
But anyway, that’s probably the quickest weekly recap post ever, here are some youtube videos of awesome…
Funny Cat Animation
Proof that Americans are NOT stupid…
…and the coolest of the cool, 100 numbers from 100 movies…
Caught the stage production of Chicago over the weekend. Some good stuff and thoroughly enjoyable. Had some also enjoyable drinks afterwards, just to complement the weekend, which has also been quite the enjoyable weekend. Apart from having to work. That was much less enjoyable.
But what else is enjoyable? Music video to Jon Brion’s Knock Yourself Out from I Heart Huckabees. Love your Marky Mark.
Not to forget to remind, vote for Roz’s yellow pages entry if you haven’t yet and clear your schedule this Friday for the Down By The Riverside premiere screening.
For the last few nights I’ve been having a string of the most surreal dreams, jumping all over the place in terms of… well, everything. Today and the last few days for that matter, I’ve been staying in bed, sleeping in and constantly either trying to continue dreaming or seeing what the next dream is like. Of course, I don’t remember any of these dreams. I remember having them, remember waking up remembering them, but now properly awake, even the most basic details are lost to me. Which is all leading me to believe I should keep myself a dream journal from now on. We shall see.
Anyway, got sent this cool video on how stonehenge was probably built and this one guy does it all by himself.
Balls tightening anticipation for Takeshi Miikie’s new film Sukiyaki Western. Like a bizarro version of Kill Bill, this is gonna be awesome.
A hilariously evil guide to Raising Your Mentally Retarded Child. If you find this funny like I did, you’re probably going to hell. That, or be forced to listen to the Spice Girl’s new song. Twice.
Forgetting if I’ve blogged this, but this video always makes me smile somewhat.
And finally, the most retardedly awesome idea for a film ever: “In 1945 the Nazis went to the moon. In 2018, they are coming back”. Hilarious.
Been rocking the boring job recently. Video store work is such a drag but at least you get free movies and shit thats not out yet to preview. Problem is it’s the fucking school holidays at the moment and if there’s one thing you can garuantee, it’ll be the fact that the big rock has been moved and all the mongoloids come crawling out of the dark to feed and prey on humanity. And witnessing this stuff, your faith in our survival as an intelligent species goes right down the drain.
I’m not one to use this blog to vent personal world view frustrations on others, or let people know how miserable and dark my thinking of shit can be. I editorialise the hell out of myself to make sure this blog isn’t like that. But god damnit, aside from issues of global warming, world peace, creating a world class ninja college in my name, people got to get out more and do something like read a book. The idiots are winning.
That said, its been a bit of a fucked up day for me. The weather recently has been really bad with ridiculous amounts of rain going on. That, last night, combined with forgetting to take my nicotine patch off before going to bed, had me constantly waking up all night from a really bad nightmare. I’ve had nightmares where I’ve woken up screaming or short of breath and covered in sweat, but last night’s constant strings of nightmares were like this subtle blend of creeping doom and horror. Eventually I smartened onto my forgetting of the patch and took it off, but the nightmares kept happening, till eventually I woke up and its bright morning and I had a half minute debate with myself to get up or go back to sleep. Well, that’s not different to any other day, but this time, I was in a state of constantly positive thinking to go “hey, I’m gonna go to sleep and for sure, this next and final dream is gonna be a good one”. Constantly thinking this in my head like a mantra, I fall asleep again and it was actually a good dream. Don’t remember the details. Most of the time I’m pretty damn vague with remembering dreams, but I do remember feeling very safe and pleased that this time the dream was going well. Right up to the point where, like a weak plot twist, my dream does a backflip on me, throws me a disaster and reveals some weak fact that just totally turns to horror everything else I thought was good and decent about the dream. And I actually spent the rest of the dream trying to piece it all back together and make it all decent again, and failing miserably and exponentially, until eventually I woke up just pissed it happened again and worse off for the fact I suddenly forgot all the details. I really should keep a dream diary for some of this crazy shit sometimes. Ah well.
Anyway, much longer post than expected and totally in a different direction, so here’s a clip, actually, the opening clip of Uwe Boll’s new “flick of awesome, but not quite ninja awesome”: Postal. I’m actually hearing some good about it and I do just say some, which is not much, but at least more than any of his previous stuff. Actually, it’s probably more than anyones said of all of his previous stuff combined, but bitch be cool, I might actually give him another chance with this…
Got nothing, but the internet provides everything…
Kick-arse cool new Michel Gondry advertisment for Motorola (who always have the really cool film savy ads).
Video of a human flip book using a t-shirt, which is just awesome and one of those, why didn’t I think of that ideas. Making of video follows afterwards.
And finally, a US promo for 30 Rock, which is very cool, featuring another very cool guy…
Nothing new to report, but if you own a copy of the fantastically awesome film The Fountain try checking out a separate audio commentary Aronofsky recorded because the studio were a bunch of stingy douchebags. Available from his website, its a bitch to synch up with the wrong player and the thing was obviously recorded for a NTSC runtime, instead of our local PAL format, but its still a good commentary. Actually, its sporadic and he doesn’t actually properly discusses anything as to the symbolisms or meaning of the film itself, but… yeah… screw it, you can download it directly here.
…Or watch these videos of some scary morphing robot face things that can imitate your facial structure and project your face onto it.
The video of me beating up a busload of terroists with one arm behind my back had to be taken down unforutantely, as there’s been too many complains of people overdosing on awesome. Pity.
Always loved the muppets. Like total man love. And always found it amusing that Jim Henson and all were hippies and that there was a rumor that when they went to England to produce the muppets, they hid copious amounts of drugs in their puppets’ eyeballs. Amusing, but after watching this video, I suddenly realized how wacked out it must be for a hippie to see talking puppets on screen. Hell, right now I’m sober and I don’t do drugs, but watching this video, I’m totally tripping balls.
