Mountain Goats Extravaganza

So went to the Mountain Goats on Wednesday night and it was nothing short of awesome.

Started out with a sweet awesome satay chicken pita felafel at Fatimas which is pretty much my crack/cocaine/heroine of going to Auckland. And proceeded to drink and enjoy my all time favourite band fronted by the amazing John Darnielle who, along with the equally great Peter Hughes and their drummer Jon Wurster, played several personal favourites including The Recognition Song, You or Your Memory and of course, No Children which the crowd just screams for every time.

Even better part about the evening afterwards was getting to talk to John and Peter afterwards, snapped some photos, shook hands and receiving hugs (as John no longer shakes hands as he jokes the last time he did so, he got the flu).

A totally awesome night and well worth any future bad karma.

Quite Possibly The Greatest Ad Ever Ever

Oh and NSFW unless you work in a strip club. Then you’re not safe for work if you hanging out on the internet instead of doing your awesome job.

Another Overdue Catchup Post

I’m now on several weeks holiday cause apparently I don’t take any holidays and I’m well overdue to be on a break and relax. Really nice timing for it to be over the Christmas/New Years period, but because this wasn’t so much of a planned holiday, I’ve not got much going on at the moment apart from looking for another job and looking forward to the Mountain Goats tomorrow. That’s about where my priorities are at the moment. Or what I can think of off the top of my head.

Anyway, I’ve got to get back into a mind frame of updating this more often, the amount of stuff I’ve now got to post in one go is getting really bad.

A strange phenomenon that occurred in the middle of the ocean that’s baffled scientists called the bloop.

A great comic about Warren Ellis being King of the Internet, and I’d agree. He also recounts a great conversation he had with his daughter the other day which I thought was great.

Though in reality it is undoubtedly a horrible experience and one I wouldn’t wish on anyone, you’ve just got to appreciate the irony of this article’s title: US anti-kidnap expert kidnapped.

A video of the sounds and voices from the video game Left 4 Dead spliced together to hilarious results.

A Japanese commercial that stars Brad Pitt, directed by Wes Anderson and makes absolutely no sense.

And finally, scientists have gotten spinning drops of water to behave like black holes which you can read here or watch this video instead.

Only one more sleep till The Mountain Goats. I’m freakin stoked.

Still Alive… Barely

Dear god my head is hurting like a motherfucker. Drank quite a bit last night.

This week a DVD for this year’s 48 Hour competition arrived in the mail. It’s pretty funky and they’ve gone the extra mile of including a 3rd disc with the best of the rest shorts. They’ve done this in previous years, but didn’t last year due to time constraints or something. Either way, it’s cool and I look forward to checking them all out sometime when I’m free, cause there is a lot of films on there. At least 100 I think.

Anyway, this hangover is quite awful. So here’s evidence of a massive black hole at the center of our galaxy here. And an article for those wHo want to test some sex toys here.

Seriously, hangovers suck.

The Horror

Middle of the day and the summer heat is messing with my brain.

Some very cool stuff recently, in particular, friend Rosalind Clark of Pixel Ink was recently featured on TV3 regarding her recently opened gallery in Wellington. I haven’t been to Wellington in years now and but anyone down there should go visit it or her site here. You can read the story online here and the video here.

There’s a write up on the studio logos and their history here which is a pretty interesting read and good fun for me recognise the difference in logos over the years. Warner bros. in particular I’ve always noted the different designs over the years and its all in a well summed up page viewable here.

And finally, a fun video musical with Jack Black as Jesus along with a whole bunch of other awesome celebrities, singing about proposition 8 in America. Check it.

Quick Shits

According to an article at stuff.co.nz top searches on google from New Zealand are words like ‘games’, ‘trademe’ and ‘bebo’. Bollocks I say, everyone knows the most searched things are ‘porn’, ‘boobs’ and ‘whats this wierd growth?’ I’d know, I’m an expert. Hell, even when I’m not on the internet, I’m searching for porn, so don’t go making up facts about the internet making it look clean stuff.co.nz. Just don’t.

The Criterion Collection have updated their website and now it’s full of resources and videos and other great things. I’ve been waiting on the exchange rate to ease up a little, but it just keeps fucking with me like a woman who could be a thai tranny, but won’t confirm that or not… er… but yeah, there has been some great recent Criterion releases, most importantly, a new edition of Chungking Express, which still sits near the top of my favourite films of all time. Anyway, check out the site and enjoy it here.

Ughbot kill

Flu is over. Feeling much better these days. Just really hungover is all.

An ad I shot a while ago is now online here with a write up about it in the times here.

Meh, my brains not processing much else right now. So here’s a way more awesome ad campaign with a digital Bruce Lee using nunchucks to kick ass at ping pong and light matches in the air. The man is so awesome.

Dead Chris Day

My desk is currently a graveyard of snot covered tissues and empty chicken soup bowls and cups. I love the fucking flu.

Snot King

Am sick. Brain isn’t functioning well today either. Was gonna do a nice witty post about this and that and how being sick sucks like a hooker at a gangbang, but right now all I’ve got is this ridiculous throbbing in my skull and my nose is all stuffy and I’m sure there’s a reservoir of snot behind it. Awesome imagery eh? I’m going back to bed.
