Mega Liberal Update

A bit to catch up on, but not to worry, it’s not like your doing anything else.

On Friday, we finally finished editing the film and thus, finished all needed work which thus ended the school year, which is also the course year, which means I’ve completed the course. Finished. Over. Actually did it. How about that?

Done some drinking in celebration. Tomorrow is graduation. And right now, I’m officially a bum. Waiting to pack up stuff, and disperse it around places in Auckland and move back down to Hamilton for Christmas, and then shoot Pictures of You. Fun times.

Okay… I thought that was going to be a bit of a bigger post there, but it looks like I’m being economical.

Ah well, hooray for years end.

Failed consistency

Still editing. Lots of frustrated head banging ensures. Well… not all that bad, Rhinos have been keeping away cause they think the thumping is another marking his territory… stupid Rhinos.

But took a break from it all Saturday. Shot off to Hamilton to pick up some equipment and then to Tauranga to film their first Christmas in the park for the council. Lots of fun, some pretty talented local acts and best of all, free Red Bulls. Totally wired and zipped back to Hamilton straight after to discuss short film music with Matt, Director of Photography stuff with Paul and quick family catch up with family. Came back early morning, totally tired and not too bothered to blog an actual elaborate post about stuff and things.

Still not too bothered. Hell, I haven’t even got anything to link, so heres an oldie of Kikkoman!

Wrapped!

Finished shooting/foley work on short film Moneta. Editing and bear wrestling now await. Still have animation and handicam footage to complete and music to still sort out. But a good bulk of the footage looks amazing (which I always go for and feel awesome achieving) and here’s some sneak peak shots from the raw footage…

Actress Lucy Fletcher

Actress Amy Steiner-Simpson

Great art department from Caroline Page

Smoke machines make me feel giddy delight

When raw footage looks this good, it makes editing a whole lot easier on the eyes, but there will still be a good load of post effects like so…

And now onto some hardcore catchup animation work. Sleep first.

Mmmmm… Fuzz…

My pants bubble with anticipation.

Also new trailer for Zhang Yimou’s Curse of the Golden Flower here. And old, but much better quality trailer here.

And we finally start shooting today… crazy.

Zodiac Trailer

Been wearing rubber gloves and animating today. Hand is sore. That’ll teach me write up a two minute animation sequence.

Anyway, briefly link to the trailer for Zodiac, the new film from David Fincher. Looks to be an awesome film, plus it’s also filmed on digital, which will be interesting to see how it’ll turn out, considering how much Fincher loves his use of dark lighting and such. Downloadable here.

The Departed… good

Finally got to watch The Departed tonight and the word is good. Damn good. Faithful remake, great dialogue, excellent performances from everyone all around and it’s simply just good to watch a new Scorsese film. Not that many changes from the original Infernal Affairs, though the condensing of the female interests into one character seemed a little much and in terms of pacing, there were a lot of info used from the prequels and sequels that we’re a little much in comparison to how Infernal Affairs played out. But still, this is one of the best films this year and all must go to bask in the glory that is Martin Scorsese.

Although, we did get into a near one hour debate on the constant continuity errors present in the film. Half of us thought it intentional, while the rest of us right people thought the others were douchebags and weren’t experts on anything past microwaving a pie. Which I still hold a two time world champion record for.

Meanwhile, shots from David Lynch’s new flick, Inland Empire have turned up and they’re worth a gander. I have no idea whats going on in them, and I’m pretty sure that’ll be my thinking straight after watching the film, but that won’t stop me going. Check them out here.

And eyes out for a possible meteor shower extravaganza this weekend. The bulk of it will be best seen in other parts of the world, but with a little luck, there should still be enough around New Zealand to see. Up to 150 meteors per hour is predicted as Earth passes through the dust cloud of the Tempel/Tuttle comet. Details here.

Just Stuff and Links

Two more cameos down today, got two more this weekend and at least three more by the end of next week. Such a whore indeed.

Discovered a fascinating account by these two guys who spent six months sailing across the pacific and saw something absolutely incredible… The birth of an island and a sea of stones. There is a great summary/write up on it here. And their blogs of the account here and here. And photos of it all here. Great stuff.

Always fancied the thought of owning a boat one day and just sailing it out into the ocean, out of sight of any land and having nothing but an endless ocean all around you. Very Hemingway and ‘Old Man and the Sea’. But still cool.

And speaking of oceans, why not mention ones on other planets? A student has been granted NASA funding in researching the concept of mirror/sails positioned above Mars to heat up sections of it and speed up a terraforming process. The world of Sci-Fi lives! Details here.

Oh and I’m having fun with this ‘bluescreen screen saver’. Now you can scare the crap out of nerds everywhere with this screen saver that simulated the blue screen of death and even uses accurate information taken from your system configuration and stuff. Geek out here.

One more cameo down

I think I’m up to 10 or 11 cameos this term. Two more to go by the end of the day. Very tired now. Need sleep. Cyanide and happiness.

Helsinki Complaints Choir

Quick post of something found on Neil Gaiman’s blog I’m sure many, especially Joe will appreciate… The Helsinki Complaints Choir. Some of it is specific to Finland, but mostly you can sympathize with it. Enjoy!

Oh and some very cool news: Alan Moore is slated to guest appear on an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. More details here. Awesomeness.

Oh and very strange goings on with Spider Girls in Santiago, read here.
